Sustainability

Efficient Machinery

Sustainability through machinery efficiency doesn’t just mean that the machines we buy are low energy. It involves a complete process that we investigate with engineers and other experts to ensure that our entire line is efficient from start to finish. It might require additional conveyors, robots or boxing machines that ensure that our machinery is not on standby or slowed down to human production limits. This ensures that our products are quickly and efficiently manufactured maximising the amount of products we can manufacture within a working day. Efficiency from beginning to end.

Sensor Light Reduced Energy

At Allied Hygiene, we have implemented an innovative system utilising sensors to enhance sustainability through energy efficiency within our building. These sensors are strategically placed to detect when individuals enter rooms, triggering the automatic activation of LED lights. This intelligent technology not only ensures that our spaces are adequately illuminated for occupants but also significantly reduces energy consumption by eliminating the need for lights to remain on when rooms or in some instances, departments within rooms are unoccupied. By employing this advanced sensor-based lighting solution, we are not only prioritising sustainability but also optimising operational costs, contributing to a greener and more cost-effective working environment.

Plastic-Free Biodegradable Materials

Our Clean & Green disinfectant wipes as either 100% viscose or 100% cellulose are convenient and easy to use. They come in a range of packaging formats including our environmentally friendly QRD bags and reduced plastic flow wrap packs available in bulk quantities for commercial and industrial use, as either legislation or environmental considerations create demands for biodegradable wipe options. Allied is ready to respond to future sustainable needs—by our formulations, substrates, and packaging formats.

We are committed to producing sustainable and eco-friendly products that are plastic-free and safe for both people and the environment. The introduction of these biodegradable, plastic-free, disinfectant wipes is a step towards achieving this goal and promoting a cleaner and greener future.

Maximising Pallet Quantity

At Allied Hygiene, we leverage cutting-edge computer software to optimise the stacking of cases on pallets, ensuring maximum efficiency and utilisation of space. By inputting parameters such as case dimensions, weight, and stacking constraints, software analyses various stacking configurations to determine the most efficient arrangement. This meticulous approach minimises wasted space, reduces the number of pallets required, and ultimately enhances our logistical operations. Through the utilisation of this advanced technology, we streamline our processes, improve productivity and maintain our commitment to delivering top-tier hygiene products with unparalleled efficiency.

Recycling

Whilst not impacted by the elimination of plastics in wet wipes for retail, Allied is very conscious of our responsibilities in the professional markets in which we operate.

Here there are controlled procedures for waste disposal so non-wovens do not end up blocking drains or polluting our waterways. Several projects already in place helping us contribute to reducing our impact on the environment:

  • Introduction of biodegradable substrates from certified FSC and PEFC sources to offer options in advance of any potential future legislative changes.
  • Investment in 2019 of a high-speed flow pack line resulted in 70% saving on packaging.
  • Quick Release Dispenser (QRD) patent saving 75% packaging.
  • All polybags are recyclable.
  • Outer cartons use recycled fibre, not virgin.
  • Segregation of waste packaging for recycling externally.
  • ISO14001 Environmental Certification.
  • Check and encourage downstream supply chain to undertake similar initiatives.
